Clean interlocking paver patio after cleaning, Kitchener-Waterloo

Interlock & Paver Sealing in Kitchener-Waterloo

Deep cleaning, polymeric sand re-sanding and a protective sealer for interlock driveways, patios and walkways. Insured crew, free written quotes.

Clean, re-sand and seal your interlock

D&D Home Services cleans, re-sands and seals interlocking pavers across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph. We clean the surface and the joints, refill the joints with polymeric sand and apply a sealer that suits the look you want, so driveways, patios and walkways keep their colour and resist weeds, stains and road salt.

What's included

  • Surface cleaning: dirt, algae, moss and most organic staining lifted with surface cleaners and a controlled rinse.
  • Joint cleanout: weeds and old, washed-out sand removed from the joints.
  • Polymeric sand re-sanding: joints refilled, compacted and misted so the sand firms up and resists washout, weeds and ants.
  • Sealing: a sealer matched to your pavers and the finish you choose, from a natural look to a richer wet look.
  • Problem spots: white efflorescence haze, rust and oil stains are assessed before sealing, and we tell you what can and cannot be lifted.

Natural look or wet look?

Sealers change how pavers look, so the finish is your choice. We bring the options to the quote.

When to seal in Ontario

Sealing needs dry pavers and a few dry days, so we work from late spring to early fall, above the minimum temperature on the product label. New interlock is usually left to weather for a season first, so any efflorescence can work its way out before it gets sealed in. Sealing before winter means the joints and surface face road salt and freeze-thaw already protected.

How often to reseal

Every few years for most homes, depending on the sealer, traffic, sun and salt. It is time when water stops beading, the colour looks washed out, or the joints start losing sand. Sealing too often builds up a cloudy, slippery film, so we check what is already on the surface before adding more.

What affects the price

The square footage, how much cleaning and stain work the surface needs, whether the joints need full re-sanding, the finish you choose, and steps, borders or tight areas. You get a free written quote, confirmed before we start. Only need a clean? Pressure washing covers cleaning without sealing. Read more in our interlock sealing guide, or request your free quote.

Why sealing helps interlock in Waterloo Region

Interlock moves a little every winter. Water runs into the joints, freezes and pushes sand out, and once the joints empty, pavers shift, weeds root and ants move in. Road salt and tire spray add stains and wear the surface. A firm polymeric joint and a sealed surface shed most of that water and salt, so spills wipe off instead of soaking in and the colour lasts longer between cleanings.

How interlock sealing works

1

Assess and quote

We look at the surface, joints and stains and confirm the finish in writing.

2

Clean and dry

Surface and joints are cleaned, weeds and old sand come out, and the pavers dry fully.

3

Re-sand

Polymeric sand is swept in, compacted and misted to set.

4

Seal and cure

Sealer goes on evenly, and you get the label times for foot and car traffic.

It depends on the square footage, how much cleaning and stain work is needed, whether the joints need full re-sanding, and the finish you choose. We measure and give you a free written quote before any work starts.

It helps a lot. Polymeric sand sets firm in the joints and the sealer locks the surface, so weeds have a much harder time rooting. Seeds can still land on top, so a quick sweep now and then keeps it that way.

A natural finish barely changes the colour and keeps the most grip. A wet look gives rich, darker colour with a sheen but can be slicker when wet. Many homes choose an enhanced finish for driveways and walkways and keep pool surrounds natural.

That haze is usually efflorescence, salts rising out of the concrete. It can often be cleaned off with the right product, and it should be dealt with before sealing so it is not trapped under the sealer. We assess it at the quote.

The sealer label sets the times, and they depend on the weather. Foot traffic is usually allowed well before cars. We give you the exact times on the day.

Every few years for most homes. Reseal when water no longer beads, the colour fades or the joints start losing sand. Sealing too often builds up a cloudy film.

Usually after it has weathered for a season, so any efflorescence can come out first. Ask your installer what they recommend for the pavers you chose.

Yes. Pressure washing cleans interlock without sealing. Sealing afterwards makes the clean last longer.
