Clean interlocking paver patio after cleaning, Kitchener-Waterloo

Interlock & Paver Sealing in Kitchener

Century-home walkways, wide driveways and shaded patios all age differently. We clean the interlock, re-sand the joints and seal it for Kitchener winters.

Paver sealing for Kitchener's old and new streets

D&D Home Services does interlock sealing in Kitchener: we clean the pavers and joints, refill them with polymeric sand and seal the surface in the finish you choose. We work on driveways, patios and walkways in Downtown Kitchener, Victoria Park, Doon, Chicopee, Forest Heights and across the rest of the city. Every job starts with a free written quote.

Kitchener was called Berlin until 1916, and much of its land was moraine and swamp, cut by creeks and rivers, before it was cleared for farms and roads. Shade and damp are still part of many yards. Older streets near downtown and newer, wider lots farther out each wear interlock differently. For other work, see home services in Kitchener, pressure washing in Kitchener or concrete sealing in Kitchener.

Older streets, older interlock

On older streets near downtown, a front walk, steps or small patio may have been down for decades. By then the joint sand has often washed out and the colour has gone flat. Interlock cleaning lifts the grime. Fresh polymeric sand locks the joints again, and a natural finish keeps steps grippy underfoot.

Wide driveways take the salt

Newer lots farther out tend to be wider, and so are their driveways. That is a lot of surface for tire spray, slush and road salt. Most driveways suit an enhanced satin finish, which brings the colour up a shade. Book before winter, so the first salt and the first freeze-thaw meet a surface that is already sealed.

Damp corners near the river

Doon sits on the Grand River, where damp air hangs on. Anywhere in the city, a shaded patio or north-facing walk stays wet longer, and algae and moss love that. We lift them with surface cleaners and a controlled rinse, then clear weeds and worn-out sand from the joints. Interlock cleaning in Kitchener leaves a clean base for new sand.

Clean only, or the full job

If your pavers are sound and just dirty, a clean on its own may be enough. That is pressure washing, from $350. If the joints are empty or the colour looks washed out, cleaning, re-sanding and paver sealing in Kitchener together make the result hold up through salt season.

How we seal Kitchener interlock

1

Look and quote

We check the pavers, joints and stains, then confirm your finish and the price in writing.

2

Clean surface and joints

Moss, algae and grime rinse off, and weeds and worn-out sand are cleared from the joints.

3

Fill with polymeric sand

Sand is swept in, compacted and misted so it sets firm and resists washout, weeds and ants.

4

Seal and cure

Sealer goes on evenly once the pavers are dry, and the label sets how long to stay off.

There is no flat rate, because no two driveways or patios are alike. The price follows the area, how dirty or stained the pavers are, how many joints need fresh sand, the finish you pick and any steps or borders. The quote is free, and you get the number in writing before any work begins.

Usually, yes. Once joints lose their sand, water gets in, freezes and shifts the pavers, and weeds and ants move in. Sealing over empty joints would not fix any of that. So we clear out the old sand and weeds, refill with polymeric sand, compact it and seal once everything is dry.

That depends on the finish. Natural or matte leaves the colour almost untouched and keeps the most grip. Enhanced or satin makes it a little deeper. Wet look or gloss goes dark and glossy, but it can be slicker when wet, so natural suits steps better.

Pavers need to be dry, with a few dry days ahead. That puts the season between late spring and early fall, above the minimum temperature on the sealer label. Booking before winter means salt and freeze-thaw meet a protected surface. Brand-new interlock is usually left to weather for a season first.

It helps a lot. A sealed surface and firm polymeric joints keep more water and salt out, and that cuts the freeze-thaw damage that empties joints. It is protection, not a cure-all, so plan to reseal every few years, once water stops beading on the surface.
