Most calls start with a leak or a sagging run, and plenty of systems only need a repair. Here is how we usually read the signs.

Sizes and parts that suit Ontario weather

Many homes here use 5-inch K-style eavestroughs. Large or steep roofs, long runs and valleys that pour water into one spot often need 6-inch troughs and bigger downspouts. We size the system to the roof area, the pitch and where the water concentrates, not simply to whatever was there before.

We measure every elevation and write the quote before any work is booked. Why installation quality matters

An eavestrough system moves more water than most people expect. One inch (25 mm) of rain on a 1,500 sq ft roof sheds about 3,500 litres of water (roughly 930 US gallons), and all of it should end up well away from the foundation. Aluminum also moves with the seasons: across a 40°C swing, a 10-metre run changes length by close to a centimetre. That is why expansion allowance, closely spaced hangers, a steady pitch and well-placed outlets matter as much as the trough itself. When any of them is off, water spills over the front, joints work loose and runs start pulling away from the fascia. Spring through fall is easiest, and having the system in before the leaves drop in October and November saves an overflow season. Winter work depends on the roof edge being clear of ice and snow.

They help a lot by carrying roof water away, especially with downspouts that empty well clear of the walls. Grading that slopes toward the house, cracked foundations and high groundwater need their own fixes, and we will point out what we see.

If the fascia behind your eavestroughs is soft or rotten, we note it in the quote, because hangers need solid wood. Fascia and soffit repairs are done by our sister company, D&D Exterior Finishing.
