Planning a roof-cleaning quote in Kitchener-Waterloo
Start with your roof material, the areas of staining and any existing damage. Ask for a written scope that explains the proposed treatment, access, protection of the property and exclusions. A black streak is not, by itself, evidence that you need a new roof.

What to send with your enquiry
Send the property address and photographs taken from safe ground-level positions. Include a wider view of each affected roof slope and a closer view of visible staining if your camera allows it. Mention any leak, missing shingle, previous patch or section you already intend to repair.
If you have the original roofing invoice or shingle product name, include that information. It helps the contractor check the right maintenance instructions. Do not climb onto the roof to obtain photographs or a measurement for an initial request.
Access details worth including
- Attached garages, additions and separate roof sections that you want assessed.
- Locked gates, narrow side yards, shared access or a neighbouring property beside the work area.
- Windows, doors, outdoor furniture and garden areas near the roof perimeter.
- The visible gutter and downspout layout, including any known blockage.
- Any appointment arrangements that need to be coordinated with tenants or another owner.
These are planning questions, not extra services automatically included in a roof-cleaning price. Put every area you want treated into the written scope so the contractor and homeowner can review the same request.
Questions to ask about the method
For asphalt shingles, ARMA advises against power washing and says cleaning instructions vary among manufacturers. Ask which instructions apply to your roof and how the proposed treatment follows them. “Soft wash” alone is not a complete method description or a warranty guarantee.

Photographs and the property address are a useful starting point. The team may need more information or an assessment before confirming the method, scope and price.
Should I include gutter cleaning in the same request?
Include it if you want that work assessed, and identify any known blockage. Ask for the gutter-cleaning scope to be listed explicitly; do not assume it is part of every roof-cleaning quote.
Will roof cleaning fix an existing leak?
Cleaning is not a roof-repair service. Disclose leaks and damaged areas before booking so the appropriate assessment can take place.
